About FNMI Group Care

We are an indigenous group care and home-based lodging in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in promoting native culture, language, customs, and ceremonies. We began operations at the onset of the COVID19 pandemic.

Our founder, Marcel Desjarlais, has vast experiences, which helps to support our team during these incredibly challenging times. Our crew comprises ten employees who take care of our spacious home, consisting of three bedrooms and two offices.

We have developed an interactive website that allows clients to view our offerings and speak directly with our administrative staff to complete real-time applications. Our services include group care for children, youth work, culture camps, and elder support.

Through these services, we empower the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit children across Edmonton, Red Deer, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Grande Prairie, and St. Paul. We also cover the Treaty Six, Seven, and Eight territories, and the western provinces. We operate 24/7 and 365 days a year.

The FNMI Group Care Difference

One aspect that makes us second to none is that our foundation incorporates seven sacred laws, including love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth.

What also sets us apart is that we foster a sense of pride and identity in our native youth clients, which was stripped away due to colonization and racist government policies. Therefore, we believe that each client is unique and beautiful, and we help to strengthen their resolve by reconnecting them with their indigenous culture and heritage.

One of our most significant achievements has been working towards our goals despite the added stress and adversity of the COVID-19 world pandemic. It has been costly to stay the course, but we remain persistent in working towards our long term vision.

Our dream for the future is to expand and open additional homes throughout the province with onsite culture, language, and ceremonial programming.

While we’re passionate about what we do, we also care about protecting the environment, so we use recycled printing paper and supplies wherever possible and utilize hemp or natural products.

We believe in giving back to society. As part of that belief, we volunteer with cooking for the homeless at holiday times throughout the year and support indigenous sports and ceremonial activities. We also organize empaths in the park, Sweat lodge, Sundance ceremonies, and Equine-assisted healing.
